REVIEW and GIVEAWAY: Rada Cutlery Regular Parer & Super Parer

My husband used to be a gourmet chef until he decided he wanted to do something else.  Cooking is still a passion with him.  He still cooks most of our meals.  He tells me that one great essence of cooking is the knives that you use to accomplish your culinary desires.

I was fortunate enough to be able to find great quality knives made right here in the USA from Rada Cutlery.  I was sent quite a few to do several reviews for you all.  Rada Mfg. Co. started making knives and utensils in 1948 in Waverly, Iowa.  They have earned a great reputation for having remarkable quality and value over the 60+ years that they have been in business.   Just see how these knives are made.

When you look at knives, you want to be sure that they are well constructed, and what the knife blades are made of.  Rada Mfg. Co. uses a specially formulated T420 High Carbon Stainless Steel.  This formulation ensures that the knives come to you with a razor sharp edge, and helps keep that edge as you use it.  As with any knife, the cutting edge does need to be protected, and should be stored in a block, in its original gift box, or with a blade sleeve.  The T420 High Carbon Stainless Steel is so very shiny, too.  In my opinion, it makes such a pretty effect to them.

Super Parer (L) & Regular Parer (R)

Today, I am going to showcase the paring knives that Rada Cutlery sent me: the Regular Parer, and the Super Parer.

Regular Parer
The Regular Parer was so easy to work with.  It conformed to the hand nicely.  With its 3 1/4" blade (overall 6 3/4" long), and the thinness of the blade, made peeling and slicing so much easier.  The peels of the apples just slid right off with little waste.  Coring the apples was like slicing through butter.  The Regular Parer made for a better outcome of the apple pie filling that my husband made with the apples.

Super Parer (check out the reflection from the shiny surface of the blade)

Some fresh foods can be a bit big for a regular paring knife, and still not worth getting out a large knife.  This is where the Super Parer comes in handy.  The Super Parer has a longer blade to get deep into items that the Regular Parer just cannot reach.  It is Rada Cutlery's largest paring knife.  With its 4 3/8" long blade (overall 8 3/8"), it made cutting the large head of cauliflower for our dinner effortlessly.   The Super Parer would be a great help in slicing large potatoes and bagels, and could be a quick substitute for a filet knife.

Rada Cutlery offers two different styles of handles: Silver Brushed Aluminum, and black Stainless Steel Resin.  I love the handles due to their one piece construction.  There are no crevices where bacteria can find a place to hide and grow.  Both of these knives, and all of the cutlery and utensils that I received, came with Rada's Silver Brushed Aluminum Handles.   It is recommended that you handwash and dry the knives with these handles.  The black Stainless Steel Resin are dishwasher safe.

All of Rada Mfg. Co. knives and utensils are covered by a Lifetime Guarantee.

These are not all the knives and utensils that Rada Mfg. Co. offers.  They have a whole line of cutlery, utensils, cookbooks, stoneware, soy wax candles, and so much more.  I have more items to show you in the coming weeks.  I will also be highlighting Rada's Fundraising  for groups in a later post.

Ready to buy it? The retail value of the knives will surprise you. The Regular Parer sales for only $4.25, and the Super Parer sales for only $5.25.  These are great prices for a high standard knife.  You can buy them online at the Rada Kitchen Store, or you can get a catalog and order it through the mail.
