Truly is a Coton de Tulear, a rare breed from Madagascar.
Cotons are part of the bichon family.

Can't help but wonder if it can see through its 'bangs'. It would be interesting to know something about the history of the breed.
ReplyDeleteHere is the colorful history of the breed, but it might now be totally true. Supposedly a ship with little white dogs shipwrecked off the coast of Madagascar sometime in the 1800's. The only survivors of the wreck were the little white dogs that swam to shore. They eventually interbred with a dog that was native to Madagascar, and the result, with after years of controlled breeding to perfect them, is our Coton de Tulear. Coton is for the cottony texture of the fur. I used to breed them. Truly is one of mine that I kept for a pet.
