An Etsy Treasure Find!

When I first went about jotting down ideas for my first Holiday Gift Guide of reviews and giveaways, kitchen items were number one on my list.  Everyone loves to receive something wonderful to enhance their kitchen's usefulness.  Cutting boards are an essential item to a functional kitchen.  To find the best quality of cutting boards, the first place I thought of was Etsy!

What can be more better than a quality handmade article as a cutting board.  My quest on Etsy turned out successful.  I found My Old Kentucky Wood Shop that has that essence of workmanship that I found to be unsurpassed. 

My Old Kentucky Wood Shop is an Etsy shop that is owned and operated by Bob Hames.  Bob is a retired educator of twenty years, and worked with the Kentucky Derby! After retirement, he wanted to go to work again--this time in his wood shop.  What a boon for us!  He loves to find unusual wood grains, colors, and patterns that will make his work stand out.  Cutting boards are just a part of his work.  Bob also crafts candlesticks, cheese boards, lamps, trays, and Harry Potter wands (great gift ideas!).

I truly believe that Bob has found his niche in life--making us breathtaking woodwork for us to treasure for a lifetime!

The cutting board that Bob sent me to review is mostly made of sycamore with walnut and padauk accent pieces.  I had not heard of padauk before and found that it is an African or Asian reddish wood tree that bears legumes.  The walnut and the padauk bring out an excellent accent in the middle of the board.   The size of the board is perfect for us.  It is 15” long and 10” wide. It is 1” thick and has a 45 degree angled edge.  This cutting board is going to be great for the upcoming holidays!  It is going to be used everyday, though.  We always have homemade bread in our home, and this board is perfect for cutting it.
