Wordless Wednesday with Linky - Baby Tortoise - April 10, 2013

What a surprise we had yesterday evening when we looked out side! A baby tortoise was walking across our driveway.  Not often you see this sight.  We took a picture of him with a quarter so that you can see his size.  We watched him as he trudged his merry way away.  Hopefully this little fellow will live to get big.  The ravens love to find baby tortoises, fly them up high, drop them onto the rocks to crack them open, and then eat them.

We didn't bother him long, just enough to take his picture.

Yes, I was absent last week.  I wanted a little time off, but it ended up being sick leave.  My cold went down into bronchitis.  So I spend most of the week just trying to get better.

  1. That was a pleasant surprise to see this little guy, hes so little, hope he will be ok. We used to see many of these on the edges of roads in Texas, my husband used to stop and carry them away from the road so he did not get on the road and get crushed. Thanks for sharing!! Happy WW! 18. Oh my goodness, he is so cuuute!
I have to show this to my girls. We have spent a lot of time talking about the Tortoise and the Hare this year, starting with our Tt: Turtle unit and ending up with the homeschool co-op play being The Tortoise and the Hare (at least the part she was in)
    They'll love it!
Don't like the info about the ravens though.
Sorry to hear you have been sick. I didn't realize. Hope you are better now.

What a COOL little tortoise! Hopefully the birds will let him be. So glad you're feeling better this week - sorry you were sick last week, poor thing!!
