Wordless Wednesday with Linky - Mourning Dove in Flight - February 26, 2014

Lately I have been experimenting with the manual focus on my camera.  I was lucky to catch one of a dozen or more mourning doves that are currently hanging around the house while it took off.  I just love the way the doves bank around in flight.

Everything is not so bleak and brown.  We have plenty of little wildflowers springing up everywhere.  I will be starting a series of desert wildflowers for Wordless Wednesday soon.

Get Right to the Point with a Classroom Friendly Supplies First-Rate Pencil Sharpener - Review and Giveaway - ends 3/15 US

I received a pencil sharpener from Classroom Friendly Supplies for free in return for an honest review.

I have been homeschooling my children since 1989.  There is one item that our schoolroom just could not go without - a good pencil sharpener.  We have gone through so many over the years - big, small, electric.  None could ever keep up with all the work that we did.  We ended up getting mechanical pencils for I could find no sharpeners that didn't want to rip the pencils apart or break off the lead.  Yet, I love conventional pencils best!

With having only one child left that I am still homeschooling, and several more still in college that need pencils sharpened.  We are so fortunate to have an A-1 pencil sharpener now from Classroom Friendly Supplies.  This sharpener is the ultimate in getting right to the point!

This pencil sharpener is well-built and engineered to last.  It has a nice shiny exterior with an old-school retro look that comes in five different colors.  We were sent the color Firehouse Red - isn't it impressive!  It has a sturdy steel-body frame and good metal grinder to give a great shave to a pencil.  To see the acquired shavings, there is a see-through plastic container that is easy to take out and clean.  It comes with a clamp to secure it to a surface - we secured ours to the kids' bookshelf - or it's portable to take where you want it.

While having all of its good looks and inner workings, this pencil sharpener is really easy to use.  Just pull out the front, pinch the clamps at the top (this hold onto the pencil for you), insert the pencil, hold onto the base, and start sharpening.  It works quietly and efficiently, and will stop when your pencil is sharpened to a perfect point, and will not over sharpen.  It's amazing how well this works perfectly every time!

My biggest wish is that I could have purchased this pencil sharpener 20 years ago.  This pencil sharpener from Classroom Friendly Supplies is a must for all of us homeschoolers, but also for anyone who sharpens pencils.  Regular school and college students will benefit.  What about those of you with a home office?  Don't you wish for a great pencil sharpener, too?

This is a top quality handsome pencil sharpener, comes in five different colors, that will work well for you for years to come, and it's a bargain at only $24.99 each with FREE shipping!   Want more than one? There are quantity discounts.  Buy one - or more - today at Classroom Friendly Supplies!

By the way: All those mechanical pencils have all been dispatched to the trash.  I am so happy to be back to regular pencils that are sharpened to a precision point!

With so many thanks to Classroom Friendly Supplies, one person is going to win one of these outstanding pencil sharpeners!  This giveaway is open to US residents only, and will end on March 15, 2014.  The only mandatory entry is to leave a comment below - if you do not leave a comment, all your entries will be null and void.

Xmas Dolly is the Conductor on this Musical trip.  Co-conductors are Callie of JAmerican Spice, Stacy of Stacy Uncorked, Cathy of  Curious as a CAThy, Naila Moon of Just the Stuff You Know and Honorary co-conductor this month is Becca from Every Day Life due to the fact that our co-conductor Stacy will be taking a hiatus for a few weeks because she’s moving.  Stacy just bought a beautiful new home.  If you stop by her blog, you can see her new place.  It's lovely!   Let's get the show going!

Here's a song that has touch my heart profoundly for so many years: Tomorrow from Annie.  I saw the Broadway play when it was showing at the Schubert Theater in Los Angeles with my drama class in 8th grade.  We were sure miffed with our teacher, Mrs. Clavin, for not letting us stay a little longer after the performance to get the casts autographs.  Tom Hatten was President Roosevelt.  Anyone remember him?

Aileen Quinn

Here's music that always can get me up and going.  If you want music that inspires me, don't think it will all come with lyrics.  I just loved coming home from kindergarten and watching The Lone Ranger on TV.  This is still a favorite with me, and get's me going when I do housework.

William Tell Overture Finale
by Rossini
performed by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra

Finally, here is the first real music I learned to play on the piano.  I play an easy version cause my hands are just slightly big enough to reach an octave.

From the King of Ragtime
Scott Joplin's - The Entertainer

We all would really love it if you would come an join us on our musical adventure each and every week.  It's fun to meet new bloggers from around the world that join us.

Silly Saturday - February 22, 2014

Time for some silly fun!

As a trucker stops at a red light, a blonde catches up. She jumps out of her car, runs up to his truck, and knocks on the door. The trucker lowers the window, and she says "Hi, my name is Heather and you're losing some of your load."

The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street. When the truck stops for another red light, the girl catches up again. She jumps out of her car, runs up and knocks on the door. Again, the trucker lowers the window. As if they've never spoken, the blonde says brightly, "Hi my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

Shaking his head, the trucker ignores her again and continues down the street. At the third red light, the same thing happens again. All out of breath, the blonde gets out of her car, runs up, knocks on the truck door. The trucker lowers the window. Again she says "Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to the next light. When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets out of the truck, and runs back to the blonde's car. He knocks on her window, and as she lowers it, he says "Hi, my name is Kevin, it's Winter in Michigan and I'm driving the SALT TRUCK!"

Graveside Services

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn’t stop for directions.

I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.

I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man.

And as I played ‘Amazing Grace,’ the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full.

As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “I never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”

Apparently, I’m still lost… It’s a man thing.
