Serene Sunday - Boléro - February 9, 2014

This week we are celebrating Valentine's Day.  Let's start it off with a modern piece of classical work by Ravel: Boléro.

Boléro is a one-movement orchestral piece written by Maurice Ravel and premiered in 1928.  Ravel had a preoccupation with reinventing and restyling dance movements, and Boléro epitomizes his efforts.  Their is a beautiful Latin flavor to this music, and Boléro has been treasured by lovers since it was used in the 1980 movie, 10, starring Bo Dereck.

I love the unchanging rhythm played on one or more snare drums that remains constant throughout the piece and the mounting crescendo to the end.

What do you think of  Ravel's Boléro?
