Garfield Holiday Collections TV Specials on DVD November 4, 2014 - Review

How many of you love Garfield?

We have always been big fans of the Garfield comics.  It's one of the first things we look at each morning.  Since we decided over 20 years ago to ditch cable/satellite television, we have never seen any of the Garfield TV specials.  I think we have been missing out as I just received the following to review:

Available to own on DVD on November 4, 2014
iTunes on November 11, 2014

Holiday Collection

Anderson Digital brings you five Garfield TV specials in one hilarious must-own collection. GARFIELD HOLIDAY COLLECTION includes Emmy™ Award-winners “Garfield Halloween Adventure” and “Garfield on the Town,” as well as Emmy™ Award-nominated “A Garfield Christmas,” “A Garfield Thanksgiving” and “Garfield in Paradise.”  The holiday collection is available on DVD as a Walmart exclusive on November 4, 2014 for an SRP of $14.99, and available on iTunes on November 11, 2014.

GARFIELD first debuted in the United States on June 19, 1978 in just 41 newspapers.  Today, it has become a phenomenon.  The cartoon strip is now in over 2,100 newspapers worldwide and read by 200 million people.  Guinness World Records named GARFIELD "The Most Widely Syndicated Comic Strip in the World."

From the comic strip's success - the GARFIELD brand expanded and crossed over to many mediums - TV shows (GARFIELD AND FRIENDS, which CBS syndicated from 1987-2000,  receiving ten Emmy™ nominations and Four Emmy™ Awards for Outstanding Animated Program), films (GARFIELD: THE MOVIE, 2004 and GARFIELD: A TAIL OF TWO KITTIES, 2006, which stars Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Bill Murray) and comic books (over 200,000,000 books sold worldwide).  Garfield currently has just under 17 million likes on Facebook (

“Of the three holiday specials, the Thanksgiving show is the most ‘Garfield,’ in that it involves food,” said GARFIELD creator Jim Davis.  “Garfield gets put on a diet early in the show so he spends a lot time thinking about food, talking about food, and trying to get food.  There’s also some funny stuff dealing with Jon’s bachelorhood and the general ‘haven’t a clue’ approach he takes to making this big meal to celebrate the day.“

A Garfield Christmas: It's a good old-fashioned Christmas on the family farm when Jon, Garfield, and Odie go home for the holidays, where Garfield learns the true meaning of Christmas - "It's not the giving, it's not the getting, it's the loving."

A Garfield Thanksgiving: On Thanksgiving, according to Garfield, people celebrate food by "eating as much of it as possible.  It's a tradition, I love tradition." But that tradition is history following a checkup from veterinarian Liz Wilson, a sassy lady who's also the new heartthrob of Garfield's owner, Jon.

Garfield Halloween Adventure: Garfield has a spooktacular adventure on the Eve of All Saints.  He fashions himself a pirate costume and takes Odie out trick-or-treating to ensure extra candy.  But when attempting to cross a river to get even more candy, Garfield and Odie end up at a haunted house with ghosts and ghoulies that seem a tad authentic.

Garfield on the Town: Jim Davis' feisty feline is on his own after slipping out of the car on a trip to the vet.  forced to scrounge for food, Garfield has a run-in with the mean Ali Cat and his gang, and is later reunited with his long lost mother.

Garfield in Paradise: This adventure finds the cool cat, his owner Jon, and Odie the dog vacationing on a tropical island along with the High Rama Lama of rock and roll (voice by the legendary Wolfman Jack), a princess and her cat - and a rumbling volcano.

GARFIELD HOLIDAY COLLECTION also includes the brand new featurette, THE HOUSE THAT GARFIELD BUILT – A VISIT WITH JIM DAVIS.  Visit Paws, Inc. Campus and watch as Jim Davis draws Garfield and talks about the programs.

For someone just watching these for the first time, they were spectacular!  We just love them.  The Christmas episode is so sweet.  Halloween was super spooky and put a chill down my back when the duo encountered the ghost.  Hearing the legendary Wolfman Jack's voice in the Emmy Award Winning Special, Garfield in Paradise, was wonderful as I haven't heard his voice in ages.  My favorite out of all was the Thanksgiving special with Grandma whipping up a fabulous dinner for Jon's first date with Liz.

The Garfield Holiday Collection will be released on November 5, 2014, and will be a Walmart Exclusive.  The retail price is $14.99, but by purchasing The Garfield Holiday Collection online at Walmart, it's only $12.74 with either Free Shipping or Free Pickup at your local store.  Preorder today!
