#NordicNaturalsVegetarian Baby's DHA & Algae Omega - Non-GMO & Hexane Free - Review & Giveaway ends 10/30 US

Did you know that October is National Vegetarian Awareness Month?  I am not a vegetarian; I am a genuine omnivore.  I do have two friends who are lacto-ovovegetarians.  We love inviting them over for dinner and cook some great vegetarian dishes for them as they will devour everything we put in front of them.

Vegetarians mainly eat fruit, vegetables, legumes, grains, seeds, and nuts.  What they don't eat is any and all kinds of meats including beef, pork, poultry, fish, and for some, eggs and/or dairy products.  This also includes any products that have are sourced from any of the above.  Some vegans will even avoid honey.

The many reasons for someone choosing to become a vegetarian, and, according to the ADA, is a much healthier diet.  Yet, a vegetarian diet does lack some essential vitamins and minerals such as: B vitamins, iron, protein, and Omega-3's.

Since most Omega-3 supplements are derived from fish, a vegan will naturally avoid these supplements.  There is always flax seed, but in reality, flax is not a vegans best source of Omega-3's as it does not break down into sufficient amounts of EPA and DHA.
Omega-3 fatty acids fall into two major categories: plant-derived (flaxseed) and marine-derived (fish). This is often confusing for physicians and patients, and many think the two are interchangeable. Flaxseed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which can be partially converted to EPA and DHA, but that conversion is somewhat slow and can be inhibited by lifestyle and health factors. Research shows that approximately 5% of ALA converts to EPA, and just 1% converts to DHA, under optimal conditions. While flaxseed and flaxseed oil may contain many health-promoting benefits, they do not provide the necessary amounts of EPA and DHA. Source: Nordic Naturals

Vegans can now rejoice!  Nordic Naturals, the leading supplier of Omega-3 products worldwide, proudly offers a completely animal-free Omega-3 supplements for vegans and strict vegetarians, and are certified by the American Vegetarian Association.  The formulations feature the same award-winning quality as Nordic Naturals signature omega oils, and are independently tested for purity and freshness.  The Nordic Natural 100% Vegetarian and Vegan products includes:
  • Baby's DHA Vegetarian
  • Algae Omega
  • Nordic GLA
  • Vitamin D3 Vegan
  • Vitamin C Gummies
  • Nordic Probiotic

I may not be a vegetarian, but I do prefer supplements derived from vegetarian sources when I can get them.  It has been while since I have taken any Omega-3 supplements since I always seem to get those fish burps afterward, I was delighted in receiving Nordic Naturals Algae Omega to review.  I also received the Baby's DHA Vegetarian as well.

With taking a Nordic Naturals product, I know that I am taking a safe without any trace heavy metals such as mercury.  All oils used in Nordic Naturals products showed no detectable heavy metals when tested down to the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega–3 (GOED) and Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) standard of 0.1 ppm.  This is very reassuring as I don't want heavy metals in my or my family's diet.  The vegan formulas are made from sustainably sourced microalgae, the original source of marine omega-3.  This is one of very few algae oils with significant amounts of EPA.

The Algae Omega from Nordic Naturals is 100% Vegan friendly.  The Algae Omega is derived from microalgae which is a plant source.  This product offers a plant-based source of beneficial marine omega-3s EPA and DHA without the use of fish. While most algae oils are short on EPA, Algae Omega's unique combination of EPA and DHA is a pure, safe, and effective source of both of these essential fatty acids.   The microalgae is non-GMO, is sensibly sourced, and is hexane free (more on hexanes a little later).

I have been taking this for a full week now, and find that when I take this in the middle of a meal, I do not burp it up.  By taking Nordic Naturals Algae Omega, I am supporting my vision, improving my heart's health and immune system, and it always gives me a more positive mood.  I like looking more at the sunny side of life, don't you?

An Omega-3 supplement can also be a big benefit for your children.  As a mother, and now a grandmother, I know the importance of feeding children a well balanced and healthy diet.  Now children don't always want to eat what you put before them, so supplements are a good way to make up the difference.  Starting a child on an Omega-3 supplement early in life may boost memory and learning skills in children.  Nordic Naturals has the perfect supplement to start your baby out right.

My granddaughter will be six months old next month.  When she reaches that age, my daughter will be introducing her to Nordic Naturals Baby's DHA Vegetarian.  Great for babies six months and older (or as directly by your pediatrician), this formula made exclusively with non-GMO microalgae, brings those essential Omega-3's to your baby while also making sure that baby gets the DHA needed for healthy development.  Just give the baby drops directly, or add it to baby's food or formula.

The DHA in Baby's DHA Vegetarian is completely hexane free.  I stress the importance of this because many products you see for baby are supplemented with DHA and not all of them are hexane free.  Why is it important that you make sure that the supplements and formulas you feed your children should be hexane free?  Hexane is a neurotoxin, a by-product of gasoline in petroleum and is considered a hazardous air pollutant by the EPA.  So if the product supplemented with DHA you are feeding your child does not say it is hexane free, then it was processed with hexanes.  All of Nordic Naturals Omega-3's are completely hexane free, and that makes me, as a mother, feel super safe to take Nordic Naturals and to recommend it.

I am very pleased to hear that Nordic Naturals has taken to heart the needs of health needs of vegans and vegetarians.  Don't think that just because you aren't a vegetarian, that you can't take these supplements are well.  I am completely happy with the Algae Omega, and my daughter can't wait to start her daughter on the Baby's DHA Vegetarian.  Remember, there is another plus - they are also non-GMO.

Nordic Naturals believes that omega oils are essential to life. By correcting the global omega-3 deficiency, they give each generation what they need to grow healthy and strong.  Through science and innovation, we are committed to delivering the world's safest, most effective omega oils.
