Resveratrol Dietary Supplement from Bri Nutrition - Review

I have been reading quite a lot about the benefits of drinking red wine, and while I do like red wine, I really don't drink it that much.  One of the richest sources of resveratrol is red wine, which is fermented with grape skins longer than white wine.  Resveratrol is something that I want, but I don't want to drink all the alcohol.

Resveratrol, an antioxidant in red wine, may be the key to weight loss, more energy, and better workouts.  What are all the benefits that may be associated with resveratrol?

Resveratrol can enhance endurance:
Do you get turned off with the mere thought of endurance training? What if you could enhance your results? According to a 2012 Canadian study, resveratrol supplementation could provide similar skeletal muscle benefits as endurance training. The study, conducted over a 12-week period on rats, found that resveratrol supplementation also resulted in an increase of endurance, oxidative metabolism, and enhanced cardiac function. Better yet, the combination of endurance training with resveratrol supplementation resulted in a performance increase of 21%. Be smart: Continue endurance training and consider resveratrol supplementation to augment results.

During Christmas, I stopped walking for a while.  I was just too busy doing other things.  Since I have been taking the resveratrol supplement, I quickly got back to walking a mile a day with so much more energy to keep going even up hill.

Resveratrol can help you tackle weight loss:

To date, most of the data on resveratrol and weight loss have come from preliminary research. In one of the most recent studies on resveratrol and weight loss, scientists found that resveratrol may stimulate the expression of adiponectin (a hormone shown to possess anti-obesity properties and fight insulin resistance). Published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2011, the study tested the effects of resveratrol on cells and animal models.

Previously published test-tube and animal-based studies show that resveratrol may help speed up metabolism and counteract the formation of fat cells. In 2009 report from Nutrition Research Reviews, however, scientists cautioned that resveratrol should not be recommended for obesity prevention or treatment until more is known about its safety and effectiveness as a weight-loss aid.

Supports a healthy heart:
Resveratrol shows potential in the treatment of an healthy heart suggests a 2010 report from Molecular Aspects of Medicine. Sizing up the available research on resveratrol and cardiovascular health, the report's authors noted that resveratrol may help decrease LDL("bad") cholesterol, prevent hardening of the arteries and keep blood pressure in check. But since most of the available data come from animal-based research, it's too soon to recommend resveratrol in the prevention or treatment of any heart condition.

Want to get a mental edge?
One way is through increased blood flow to your brain. Recently, UK researchers conducted a study of 22 healthy adults and determined that neurological blood flow was increased following resveratrol consumption. Prior to that study, Illinois researchers discovered that mice receiving resveratrol supplementation had better memory function and overall increased mental performance. More research is necessary to determine the extent of its effect, but the good news is that if you're a regular wine drinker, you now have yet another good reason explaining why.

May protect against type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke:
In a 2009 review of recent studies on red wine's health effects, researchers determined that resveratrol may aid in prevention of age-related disorders (such as inflammation and neurodegenerative disease).

In a more recent study, resveratrol supplements were found to suppress inflammation in a small group of adults. Published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, the study assigned 20 participants to take either a placebo pill or 40 mg of resveratrol once a day for six weeks. Results revealed that resveratrol helped reduce oxidative stress (an aging-related biological process linked to a number of diseases) and inflammation. According to the study's authors, these findings suggested that resveratrol may help protect against type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. However, more research is needed before any firm conclusions can be drawn.

An eyesight safeguard
Vision is arguably the most important of your five senses. Even the slightest vision loss is instantly noticeable. Unfortunately, for most, vision loss is a normal part of aging, Luckily, a study by Missouri researchers has found that resveratrol has the ability to counteract this somewhat common occurrence. How? They discovered that resveratrol has the ability to regulate angiogenesis, thereby preventing the abnormal growth of blood vessels that are damaging to eyesight. Other eye-friendly foods to consider include Omega-3 fatty fish, as well as foods rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

I know, as my husband would say it seems like this is just another miracle supplement since it is beneficial for so many things.  Even though the FDA has not approved of all the health benefits, I think that most of the claims are true.  I do feel better, I have more energy, and my mind is working well.

  2. Hmmmm Pretty interesting, but only thing is with all the medication I'm taking I'd have to pay for a doctor's visit to see if I could take something like this. I always ask because I take so many different things, but I think I can forward this info to my youngest daughter. She's a nurse & she might take it. Yep! Thanks for sharing.
