Wilton Armetale Flutes & Pearls Heart Dish - Valentine Custard Pie Recipe - Review & FIVE WINNER Giveaway - ends 02/24/15 US

Every holiday we try to celebrate in the grandest style we can.  Valentine's Day is no exception.  Not only do we express the love that we have for one another, but we decorate the house and bake special treats.  We usually bake a heart-shaped cake for Valentine's Day, but this year I baked something different, a Valentine Custard Pie with Whipped Cream and Raspberries.  I baked it in a heart-shaped dish from Wilton Armetale.

Wilton Armetale makes a vast array of beautiful cook and serve dishes that are oh so convenient to use because you can cook and serve in the same piece. Armetale metal is a unique, non-toxic aluminum-based alloy, making it ideal for cooking and entertaining.  It's safe for the oven, safe on the stove or on the grill.  Need to freeze a food?  It's perfectly safe in the freezer as well.

The Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish is such a lovely work of art that will grab anyone's attention when you serve your family or guest.  The Flutes and Pearls collection from Wilton Armetale is a reproduction and adaptation of an 1821 candlestick base design.  The "Flutes" are sculpted parallel indentations and "Pearls" are repeated raised beads.  With its high polish shine that is similar to fine silver, the Flutes and Pearls combination makes for a spectacular look, and the Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish is such a beautiful piece.

As with the Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish, all of Armetale's are very sturdily made, but with the unique metal makeup, it doesn't weigh as much as what you would think, and guaranteed against breakage.  Your food will stay hotter longer at the table, and chilled food stays colder longer than with conventional cookware or serveware.  They just make entertaining so easy, and clean up is a breeze - just simply hand wash with soap and water (do not put in the dishwasher).

The Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish was issued in 2013 to commemorate Wilton Armetale's 50th anniversary.  It bears the distinguished “50th” touch mark on its underside, and this dish is sure to be a collector’s item... as well as a beautiful and functional serving piece.

It's looks so lovely on the table as a decorative touch filled with Valentine candy.  The fluted sides of the heart shaped dish makes this dish a perfect pie pan as well.  I cooked up a Valentine Custard Pie for my family.  I'm not the best cook, and it didn't look really the greatest, but it tasted wonderful!  I added the touches of whipped cream and fresh raspberries to top it off.

Valentine Custard Pie
(adapted from Food.com)

1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shell, deep dish
3 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups scalded whole milk
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 drops yellow food coloring (optional)

1 egg white, beaten

Whipped Cream (your favorite recipe or cool whip)
1 pint Fresh Raspberries

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. Mix together eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Stir well. Blend in the scalded milk. For more yellow color, add a few drops yellow food coloring.

3. Brush inside bottom and sides of pie crust with egg white to help prevent a soggy crust. Pour custard mixture into the pie crust. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

4. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near center comes out clean. (Please adjust according to your oven) Cool on rack.

After the custard pie is cool, clean the raspberries, set aside.

Pipe the whipped cream around the edge of the pie.  Then add the raspberries all around.  Pipe an extra circle of whipped cream if desired.

The Wilton Armetale Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish baked the pie perfectly!  The custard set just right, and the crust was fully cooked and flaky.  Each piece came out cleanly - not one piece was stuck to the bottom.  The custard pie looked like a masterpiece in the Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish.

The Flutes and Pearls Heart Dish is just a sampling of the treasured servingware that Wilton Armetale has to offer.  Each item of Wilton Armetale's is a little piece of art.  All of Armetale's products are so durable and will not rust, break, crack or chip under normal usage.  Each is a solid piece of metal with no coating applied.

Substantial and beautiful, that's what Wilton Armetale has worked hard to develop in the wide array of Armetale metal products that reflect the way you live.  From formal to casual, stylish to rustic, each piece that Wilton Armetale crafts is designed to capture the spirit of your life.
