Wordless Wednesday with Linky - Spring in the Desert - March 25, 2015

Spring is definitely here in the high desert of Southern California.  Wildflowers are blossoming everywhere, our cottonwoods are giving a good amount of shade, and critters have woken up from their hibernation - the snakes!

The Beavertail Cactus is just starting to bloom.  There are buds everywhere on both of the bunches we have.

 Queen Butterfly

Desert Dandelions

A baby Red Coachwhip Snake or Red Racer.  They are called Red Racers because once they are startled, they are gone quicker than you can bat an eye.  This little one, which was about less than 12",  was still a bit sleepy from hibernation, and just wanted to hide again.  These are good friendly snakes that get rid of rodents.  We like to have these around the house.
